Gumpert recognised that elegance is part of the genetic code of Touring Superleggera’s creations. Even more remarkably, the paradigm of elegance was applied by Touring to the race cars too. This distinctive approach was at the basis of many masterpieces, like the 1940 Mille Miglia winner BMW 328 Berlinetta, the Ferrari 166 and 340 and the inspiring Alfa Romeo 8C2900. They all were redoubtable race machines with singular grace.
The Gumpert Tornante has the genes of the Gumpert apollo and inherits its impressive V8 biturbo engine. Weighing only 196 kg, the engine plays a major role in ensuring the ideal weight and the fascinating driving dynamics of the Tornante. An angle of 90° between the two cylinder banks is a sign of a classic 8-cylinder engine.
Starting from the pure block from Audi, the engine is a complete in-house development. Thus, the manufacturing process contains among others all the moving parts, air and fuel management, turbo chargers, charge air-duct and dry sump lubrication. In the basic version this engine delivers 700 HP. In comparison to the apollo, the configuration will be optimized for the Fast Touring mission. This means more comfort and more suitability for daily use.
Alongside the V8 power unit, an alternative powered Gumpert Tornante is also planned for 2012.
Gumpert Tornante by Touring features 2-seater sports car with a mid-engine arrangement, chrome-molybdenum steel chassis with an integrated safety cell, doors and the boot lid open with gull-wings, carbon body, 100 l stainless steel tank behind the passenger cell with integrated catch tank, long and pushrod-operated double transverse control arm suspension with fully adjustable dampers (front and rear) and anti roll bar in front, ground clearance adjustable between 60 and 140 mm, two circuit ABS brake system with six piston callipers, inside ventilated discs (378 x 32 mm) at front and rear.
The Gumpert Tornante by Touring powered by V8 cylinder biturbo engine with 90° cylinder angle, closed-deck light metal crankcase, light metal cylinder heads with five valves per cylinder, four overhead camshafts, variable time of ignition (Vario Cam direct) on the intake, hydraulic valve clearance compensation, dry sump lubrication, double-flow exhaust system with 3-way catalytic converter, four Lambda probes for gas mixture and diagnostics, on-board diagnostic system, two Intercoolers, electronic ignition with a rested ignition distribution (eight ignition coils), sequential multipoint fuel injection, electronic accelerator system (drive-by-wire)

2012 Gumpert Apollo Enraged
GUMPERT premieres the Gumpert Apollo Enraged, a purebred race car with the brute thrust of up to 860 hp. As the second world premiere, GUMPERT presents the special edition Gumpert Apollo Enraged.
As the heraldic animal of the sports car manufacturer GUMPERT, the griffon also decorates the distinctive swing doors of the apollo enraged. The mythical creature is part of the designer paintjob and foils that visually emphasise the link between the enraged and the apollo r. This genetic connection becomes tangible through a performance boost to 780 hp and a reduction of the dry weight to 1,175 kg. Next to the flag design embroidery on the seat and headrest, the digital LCD instrument panel is the most noticeable special feature on the interior.

2012 Gumpert Apollo R
At the 82nd Geneva International Motor Show, the exclusive manufacturer premieres the Gumpert Apollo R, a purebred race car with the brute thrust of up to 860 hp. Numerous modifications were required to extract up to 860 hp from the 4.2 litre V8 engine. These include a higher supercharging pressure, ignition and control time adjustments, optimisation of the intake air ducts and a special racing exhaust system. Of course maximum performance depends on the use of racing fuel with correspondingly high octane levels. In view of the planned deployment in Asia and the expected temperatures, the engine and transmission cooling system was also enhanced. The spur-toothed dog ring transmission is controlled by rocker switches on the steering wheel but without a clutch pedal. A central digital dashboard supplies the driver with essential information. Otherwise all frills were removed from the interior of the apollo r.
To bring all this brute force to the pavement, the chassis which already set standards was extended with a titanium blade stabiliser on the rear axle. Numerous optimisation measures, for example on milled parts, the wiring harness and undercarriage, as well as eliminating comfort components such as the boot, allowed the charge weight (empty tank) to be reduced to 1,100 kg. At the exhibition stand in Geneva, the apollo r presents itself in a black-red-gold foil dress. The driver and passenger doors are each graced by a griffin, a cross between an eagle and lion and therefore the lord of the air as well as the earth.

Gumpert Apollo Sport
The apollo sport is the rebel amongst the super sport cars. Its bodywork combines sexy curves with potent edges and angles and aims for uncompromising aerodynamics. A clear demonstration of the principle form follows function. Its challenging sporting design derives from the requirement to built a street legal racing car, whose number one priority is to provide extraordinary performance on the circuit, but at the same time embodying a vehicle suitable for daily use.
The highest importance was attached to safety: the tubular space frame in chrome-molybdenum steel with integrated safety monocoque fabricated in carbon-fiber passes all crash-tests regulations, while a cashbox offers additional protection. The gaping air intake stub over the roof and on the rear signals power, dynamics and superiority. The eight cylinder, bi-turbo mid-engine with up to 800 horsepower is capable of catapulting this 1200 kg missile from 0-100 km/h in only 3 seconds

Gumpert Apollo
The Gumpert Apollo is a sports car produced by German automaker Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur GmbH in Altenburg. One of the first concerns of this car was that it would be a street-legal car, ready for the race track. Gumpert returned to Germany at the end of 2001, after more than three years in China. There he was the head of sales and marketing, responsible for the development of the dealer network of the Audi-VW joint enterprise. Just after he returned to Germany, Roland Mayer asked him if he would assist him in building a prototype sports car. Audi approved Gumpert's involvement in this project, on the condition that, if they did eventually develop a new sports car, it would not be a prototype, but a series product.
